What do we do?

We protect seals on the beaches along the entire Belgian coast — from De Panne to Knokke-Heist — with a team composed entirely of volunteers.

For many visitors to our coast, the sight of seals resting on our beaches is a relatively new experience.

The number of seals coming ashore to rest is also increasing significantly year after year, which brings new challenges.

In every coastal municipality, we have a local team of dedicated volunteers.

When a call comes in to our emergency number, they head to the location as quickly as possible.

Their first priority is ensuring everyone's safety.

They achieve this by keeping both people and other animals at a safe distance from the resting seal—firmly, yet in a friendly and polite manner ("Guard & Protect").

While doing so, they are always happy to take a moment to share interesting facts about these animals, which are the largest predators found along our coast.
